Movie Review: Pulp Fiction

I'm not going to lie, I have already seen Pulp Fiction but it was so long ago, like I’m talking 5 or 6th grade, so I thought I would revisit it because I probably didn’t get what the movie was actually about and i feel as though most of it went right over my head. I'm so glad I did! I realized I missed A CRUCIAL part of the movie. Maybe it was because I was too young and unobservant to understand.

Anyway, Pulp Fiction is pretty much a series of less and more related short stories of crime and comedy that's interwoven into the lives two hitmen Vince Vega (Travolta) and Jules Winnfield (Jackson), a boxer (Willis) and his french wife, a gangster's actress wife (Thurman) and a Bonnie and Clyde-esque couple about to rob a diner. The movie is roller coaster ride of dark humor, sudden plot twists and unexpected deaths. It appears at first that none of these stories correlate with each other, but bits and pieces come together to form one big, non linear, bizarre story of crime. I personally really liked it. The movie had fabulous close ups of the actors, especially Uma Thurman’s character, Mia Wallace. The establishing shot of the movie is what really made the movie (I think) because the movies ending circles back to the beginning shot. Another really good close up was of Christopher Walken talking to the the child that would grow up to be Bruce Willis’s character, about a watch that was his birthright. There was also a really good POV shot from the trunk of Jules car, with Travolta and Jackson looking down into the trunk. I would totally recommend this movie, it's edgy and pretty hilarious. The cast is STACKED, such good actors and actresses! The music in the movie is also so amazing, the title opening song Misirlou by Dick Dale is SO GOOD and such a good choice for the opening. A good mix of crime and comedy, not too dark or too slapstick. Also I really like movies with stories that intertwine (Love Actually is a really good movie like that) but this movie was different because the stories weren’t really that related but still lined up somehow and made sense? There are like a few very minor holes in the story but you can interpret them how you wish, which almost makes the story unique because you don't actually know what the answer is. Like the briefcase in the movie! You never know what’s inside of it but there are some interesting theories online to what is inside.  It was just so good. I'm so glad I rewatched it because I definitely didn't understand or appreciate it like at all. I totally understand why it's a top 100 film, it has a great cast, great acting, great shots, fabulous music and an overall very entertaining plot. 10/10 would recommend to friends and family as well as film lovers.
